Nursery

On behalf of all the staff, children, parents and Governors we would like to warmly welcome you to Harold Court Nursery.  We opened our doors to the first intake of 3-4 year olds in September 2025, and are enjoying the creativity, growth and fun which our newest members of the school community are bringing.

At Harold Court we are very proud to be a culturally diverse and fully inclusive nursery and school.  At all times, we are committed to ensuring we aspire to our mission statement, Be the best, you can be!

Our Core Values of Friendliness, Unity, Compassion, Delight, Endeavour, Tolerance and Respect are clearly understood and shared by every member of the school community.

They are the principles and priorities that guide our school.

They represent the foundational commitments and deeply held beliefs that allow our nursery and school to navigate situations while keeping their identity and culture at the forefront.

Hours and charges:

Our Nursery is open 38 weeks of the year, and follows Havering School Term holiday dates.  The Nursery is not open during school holidays.

Each day, children are welcome to attend any combination of sessions as available:

8:30am opening, with a 3 hour morning session on offer (until 11:30am);

11:30am - 12:30pm lunch, which can be paid for in addition to either the morning or afternoon session;

12:30pm re-opening, with a 3 hour afternoon session on offer (until 3:30pm)

In addition to this, nursery children are welcome to attend our Breakfast and/or After School Clubs, to be booked and paid for separately via ParentMail.  Please see full details of our Breakfast and After School Clubs on our website, including charges, times and registration forms.

All children are entitled to the Government funded 15 hours of Nursery care.  In addition to this, working parents / carers may be entitled to an additional 15 hours funded care, pending eligibility (to be applied for directly by the parent / carer).  We welcome parents / carers to book any combination of sessions, although if both morning and afternoon sessions are booked, lunch is also required to be booked and paid for (regardless of funded hours).  Lunch would be charged at the standard Havering Catering rate (currently just under £2.80/meal).  If both sessions are booked, parents / carers also have the option of collecting their child for the lunch hour, which would then not be paid for, and returning them for the afternoon session.

If parents / carers are not entitled to additional hours above the initial 15, they are welcome to pay for them as required.  The hourly rate is charged at £6/hour.

Please click here to find full details on our Nursery Charging and Remissions Policy.

Meals at nursery during the day:

Children are offered a morning and afternoon snack during each session.  This includes a variety of fruit, crackers, milk and juice.  We are able to provide this snack at a charge of £2 per child, per week.  Alternatively, you are welcome to provide your child with their own snack.  During snack time, a staff member sits with the children to encourage a relaxed eating environment.

Lunchtime meals are taken at dedicated tables within our school Dining Hall.  This offers our nursery children the opportunity to enjoy their lunch whilst experiencing time with children from Key Stage 1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.)  By sharing meal time, we aim for the children to be comfortable and confident when transitioning into school from Nursery.

All children are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home, or choose a School Dinner.  Havering Catering Services provide three healthy meals on their menu this includes a vegetarian option. The school office will provide parents/carers with updated school dinner menus via Parentmail and on the school website. It is extremely important that you notify the school office if your child has any allergies and that you add this information to your starter forms. Please note that we have a strict ‘No Nuts’ rule at Harold Court Nursery and Primary School.

Learning and Curriculum in our Nursery:

In the Nursery, we have various dedicated areas which includes Maths & English, Home Corner, Arts & Creativity, Book Corner and an enclosed, covered outdoor space.

Your child's Nursery learning is lead by Mrs Emson, a fully qualified EYFS Teacher.  She is supported by Mrs Mackay as a dedicated Nursery Teaching Assistant.  Both Mrs Emson and Mrs Mackay are valued and experienced Harold Court staff members who will ensure your child's day is filled with interactive, inclusive and educational play based learning activities.

Uniform at Nursery:

We understand that purchasing logo uniform can be costly, and therefore have made the decision not to request our Nursery children to wear any uniform with a HCP logo.  Instead, we ask that children are wearing a simple uniform, available from any supermarket-type retailer.  Please dress your child in the following:

  • Navy sweatshirt
  • Navy tracksuit bottoms
  • Navy / dark grey shorts (Summer Term only)
  • Light blue polo t-shirt
  • Black trainers
  • Wellington boots

Please  ensure  that  all  items  of  clothing  are  marked  with  your  child’ s  name. If your child does lose an item of clothing during Nursery hours please advise the Nursery Teacher/adults.  They will check the lost property on your behalf as we do not allow parents/carers onto the school premises unattended due to Safeguarding.
